Loving Logan helps children learn to handle challenges, bounce back from setbacks, and treat themselves with kindness when things feel difficult. Through storytelling, movement, positive self-talk, and practice, children develop tools they can use at school, at home, and with others.
Positive Self-Talk
“I love myself.”
How to Use This Lesson
1. Meet Loving Logan
Introduce Loving Logan, a real Powerful You kid who is learning to love and believe in himself. Ask children, “Do you ever say kind things to yourself?” Talk about how the words we say in our minds can help us feel brave, confident, and ready to try again.
2. Breathe & Stretch
Choose a simple stretch from the Breathe and Stretch on the Beach book or follow Logan's FREE movement video. Invite children to place their hands over their hearts, take a gentle breath, and think of something they like about themselves.
3. Read the Powerful You Story
Read Loving Logan's story from the Powerful You Primary book or laminated cards. Talk about Logan's feelings and experiences. Ask, “What can you say to yourself when something feels hard?”
4. Practice Positive Self-Talk
Say Logan's phrase together: “I love myself.” Practice saying it aloud, then quietly in your mind. Remind children that they can use kind words to encourage themselves, especially when they make mistakes or face challenges.
5. Write or Draw
Choose a writing or drawing activity from the Powerful You Primary book. Invite children to draw something they love about themselves or complete the sentence, “I am ______.”
6. Role-Play
Let children hold Logan's laminated card and pretend to be Loving Logan! Act out situations such as making a mistake while drawing, having trouble learning something new, or feeling left out of a game. Practice replacing discouraging thoughts with kind words like “I am amazing!” or “I am proud of myself!”
7. Display the Skill Sign
Display Loving Logan's Positive Self-Talk sign where children can see it. Explore the positive phrases on Logan's sunshine: “I am amazing,” “I am proud of myself,” “I am perfect the way I am,” “I am a superstar,” “I am important,” “I am smart,” “I am a good friend,” and “I am loved.” Invite children to choose one sunshine ray to practice each day.
8. Collect & Celebrate with Digital Brag Tags
Notice children encouraging themselves, trying again after mistakes, and speaking kindly about themselves. Celebrate their efforts with Digital Brag Tags and say, “You used your Powerful You thinking!”
