Lesson E: Energetic Erica – Healthy Habits | Powerful You Kids

Energetic Erica helps children learn how healthy habits, including movement, nutritious foods, rest, and self-care, support their bodies and minds. Through storytelling, movement, positive self-talk, and practice, children develop tools they can use at school, at home, and with others.

“I am full of energy.”

How to Use This Lesson

1. Meet Energetic Erica

Introduce Energetic Erica, a real Powerful You kid who is learning how to keep her body healthy and strong. Ask children, “What are some things you do every day to take care of your body?” Talk about how healthy habits help us feel good, grow, and have energy to learn and play.

2. Breathe & Stretch

Choose a simple stretch from the Breathe and Stretch on the Beach book or follow Erica's FREE movement video. Invite children to stretch tall, wiggle their bodies, and notice how good it feels to move!

3. Read the Powerful You Story

Read Energetic Erica's story from the Powerful You Primary book or laminated cards. Talk about Erica's feelings and experiences. Ask, “What healthy habit would you like to practice?”

4. Practice Positive Self-Talk

Say Erica's phrase together: “I am full of energy.” Practice saying it aloud, then quietly in your mind. Invite children to think of something healthy they can do with their energy today.

5. Write or Draw

Choose a writing or drawing activity from the Powerful You Primary book. Invite children to draw themselves practicing a healthy habit, such as playing outside, drinking water, brushing their teeth, or eating fruits and vegetables.

6. Role-Play

Let children hold Erica's laminated card and pretend to be Energetic Erica! Act out a healthy morning or bedtime routine. Practice choosing water, brushing teeth, stretching tall, or getting ready for a good night's sleep. Ask, “What would Erica do to take care of her body?”

7. Display the Skill Sign

Display Energetic Erica's Daily Health Tips sign where children can see it. Explore her healthy habits together: reading and learning, brushing teeth, drinking water, washing with soap, sitting and standing tall, eating fruits and vegetables, limiting screen time, playing outside, and getting enough sleep. Invite children to choose one healthy habit to practice today.

8. Collect & Celebrate with Digital Brag Tags

Notice children making healthy choices throughout the day. Celebrate their efforts with Digital Brag Tags and say, “You used your Powerful You thinking!”
