Twist Out the Tension: 3 Things You Can Let Go Of Today

30-Minute Yoga class to help the body and mind let go.

This week’s 30-minute class is all about twists—one of the most powerful ways to help the body and mind let go. As teachers and caregivers, we’re constantly holding space for others, which can leave our own systems overloaded. Twists offer a chance to soften, unwind, and return to ourselves.

Here are three things stressed teachers can release as we move through this practice:

1️⃣ The Need to Hold Everything Together

In a twist, your body does the work for you. Each breath invites the nervous system to settle and reminds you that you don’t need to carry it all. Even a small rotation can feel like permission to finally exhale.

2️⃣ Emotional Clutter

Stress often comes from the layers we accumulate throughout the week. Twists gently “wring out” stuck tension in the torso and create space around the heart. Consider this your moment to set down anything that isn’t yours to keep.

3️⃣ Yesterday (and Tomorrow)

Teaching pulls us into the future; reflection pulls us into the past. Twists help bring you back to the present moment. As you move, imagine turning the page—arriving exactly where you are, with nothing to fix.

This quick class is designed to reset your system and leave you feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded. I can’t wait to practice with you.

Take what you’ve learned in this practice and share it with your students—helping them breathe, twist, and let go, just like you.

✨ 1. Shake It Out

Before sitting down to work, invite kids to stand up and gently shake their hands, arms, and legs.
Why it helps: Shaking helps release stuck energy and resets their focus quickly.

🌬️ 2. Balloon Breathing

Have children place their hands on their belly, breathe in like they’re blowing up a big balloon, and then let it “deflate.”
Why it helps: Deep belly breaths calm the nervous system and help kids feel more in control.

🌀 3. Twist & Let Go

From a seated position, kids can gently twist to one side, take a slow breath, then twist to the other.
Why it helps: Twisting helps the body feel safe, grounded, and ready to release any worries from the day.
